After months of research, lots of contemplation, multiple trips to the pet store and years of begging from the girls we crazy parents caved and bought a DOG. I still can't believe it but YES we own a dog. The things we will do for our children. The line, "we have to have a backyard and you have to be old enough to help take care of it just wasn't gonna cut it anymore." We all know how responsible Kylee is and well we now have a yard. Hmmm..... Kylee flat out stated it like this..... "I really want a horse, dolphin, baby or a dog. It would be impossible to get a dolphin. You told me horses cost way too much money and we don't have a big enough yard to keep it in and I can tell a baby just isn't gonna happen so that means we have to get a dog!" Glad to know my 6 year old is thinking it through it for us. We had several melt downs after visiting certain puppies, multiple notes written and signs created for Skylar and I...some nicely asking and others almost threats! There was no question how bad this girl wanted a dog.
Sky and I spent countless hours on the internet looking at different breeds. We were determined to find a small dog that didn't shed too bad, still looked cute, wouldn't need grooming and most importantly would be playful great with the kids but still calm and not too hyper. Lexi really wanted a calm dog she saw and Ky wanted a hyper one...ahhhhh! We stubbled across this litter of pocket beagles in Maryland about 2 hours away and after visiting with the puppies it is apparent we were sold.
She is darling and most people have never seen this breed so she gets lots of attention. (ie: vet or petsmart which was a must run errand with the dog for Kylee) We had a great time getting ready for her and Kylee was determined to even spend her own money on buying her collar. The rainy day came for me of all people to drive and pick her up since the pickup time fell during Ky's basketball game. I had anxious girls awaiting my arrival....
It has been about two months now and the novelty of having a dog hasn't worn off yet for the girls but we will see. I am hanging in there with cleaning up accidents and am wondering if this girl will ever be fully house broken. However, overall she is a great dog with a perfect temperament for our family. I will continue to give it my all as the excitement on both Sadie and Kylee is priceless as they greet each other when she gets off the bus and seeing Kylee fall asleep with her dog for a few hours in the evening is pretty cool. She often has her new companion curled up next to her when watching tv and she does a great job taking her outside.
Alexis is trying her best to not squeeze her too hard and to remember that she isn't a stuffed animal but has a good old time getting in her crate with her our hiding away in her princess tent with Sadie. She even attempted to put her in her little shopping cart but Sadie didn't want much to do with that.
Anyway, the girls are loving "our third child" and we are loving watching them love her!
